After Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over Fulham on Sunday to win the Premier League Summer Series trophy, the Blues’ head coach addressed the media.
The victory was gained thanks to goals from Thiago Silva and Christopher Nkunku, despite the game being played in the US.
After the game, Pochettino was questioned about the summer transfer market and Axel Disasi after it was reported that Chelsea and Monaco had reached an agreement in principle on a move of €45 million (£38 million).
You are wiser than I am! said Pochettino. “I believe it is apparent that perhaps we need to strengthen this area (defend) in light of (Wesley) Fofana’s injury.
“We need a midfielder with experience.” According to my source, they will sign Lesley Ugochukwu, a French player, with the intention of loaning him out for a while.
I’m not sure how many additional signers I’ll need since if I give you a number, it might lead to trouble.
The club is working really hard to try and develop all of the aspects, so for me, it’s crucial.
Despite Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson’s strong preseason displays so far, Pochettino is willing to add another attacker.
Pochettino stated of the duo, “Today we were happy with the performance and they can compliment very well.”
Yes, of course. Possibly, we can add another profile or player who can aid us; of course, we are flexible.
“I am so pleased with both, and we have younger players in the UK recovering from surgery, like Mason (Burstow) and (Armando) Broja.” In the next weeks before the transfer window shuts, we must do analysis. We’ll make the finest choice possible for the group.
Following Trevoh Chalobah’s injury in the preseason victory against Fulham, Pochettino has issued an update on the Chelsea defender.
Chalobah entered the game in the second half but was removed after one hour due to injury and was replaced by Alfie Gilchrist.
Pochettino continued, “I hope it’s not a big deal.” As a precaution, I say. We must evaluate him within the next few days. We don’t think it’s big, but we also hope.
On August 13, Chelsea will host Liverpool for the start of their Premier League campaign.
