Chelsea can deal Liverpool a double transfer blow following the signing of a long-term contract.

As Premier League clubs race to finish their squads for the 2023–24 season, Chelsea has two opportunities to defeat Liverpool in the upcoming weeks.

By guaranteeing the future of Levi Colwill and aiming for a record-breaking £50 million transfer for Romeo Lavia, Chelsea can deal a double blow to Premier League rivals Liverpool. Reds manager Jurgen Klopp reportedly wanted to sign Colwill and Lavia, but Chelsea may now outbid him for those agreements.

The Blues have supposedly secured a coup in agreeing a long-term deal with in-demand defender Colwill. Reports suggest that the England U21 ace will pen a fresh six-year contract with the West Londoners to keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2029.

Colwill had been coy on his future after winning the U21 European Championship with the Three Lions. But he has been won over by new head coach Mauricio Pochettino, who has offered the 20-year-old assurances over his game time.

Liverpool reportedly had interest in signing the Chelsea academy alum. According to rumours, Klopp is eager to bolster his defensive options with youthful talent.

Colwill, who grew up admiring Steven Gerrard and supporting Liverpool, has been targeted for acquisition. Klopp will likely fail in his efforts to recruit the former Brighton loanee, though.

And if Chelsea decides to pursue a move for Southampton star Lavia, who is valued at £50 million, Liverpool could suffer a second setback. Following the Saints’ relegation from the Premier League, the Belgian is one of the most sought-after young players.

The adolescent is reportedly a favourite of Klopp, who has been considering a move for him as Liverpool looks to strengthen their midfield this summer. However, given that a prospective transfer for Moises Caicedo of Brighton may no longer be an option, Chelsea may now present a greater threat to the German.

Chelsea has had two offers for the wonder from Ecuador rejected, with the most recent one reportedly for £80 million. Colwill wanted to be a part of a half-exchange deal with Brighton, but that is unlikely to happen now that he has committed to a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

Lavia is the ideal replacement for Caicedo because of his dynamic approach. With the addition of the 19-year-old, Pochettino would have a midfield that could compete with teams like Manchester City and Arsenal.

Lavia being acquired by Chelsea would be the ideal addition for Pochettino’s new era. Additionally, it would deal a serious setback to Liverpool’s season-opening plans.
