If Chelsea is unable to reach a deal with Brighton for the transfer of Moises Caicedo, they have a shortlist of potential replacements. The two teams have been in negotiations for the most of the summer transfer season, but there hasn’t been any apparent progress on an actual price, and Brighton has reiterated their demand of £100 million.
Over the weekend, Caicedo and his agent sat down for a meeting with members of the two clubs’ hierarchies in an attempt to resolve his future. However, as reported by Di Marzio’s Nathan Gissing, no clear breakthrough was made as the Seagulls refused to budge on their triple-figure asking price for his services.
With just under a month now left of the summer window, Chelsea are running out of time to sign Caicedo with more alternatives coming to light. The Times is reporting that Leeds United star Tyler Adams and Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez are two options with Southampton’s Romeo Lavia another.
Throughout the current trading period, Chelsea have been keeping tabs on Lavia’s situation with Liverpool now actively trying to sign the teenager. An opening offer from Anfield was swiftly turned and a second proposal said to be worth £42million will also be rebuffed with Southampton holding out for £50million.
However, the Saints’ asking price may have actually increased following Liverpool’s insistence and Chelsea’s Caicedo struggles. According to the Daily Record, Southampton are confident of achieving a fee in excess of £60million for Lavia with it also claimed Southampton’s co-owner and head of football strategy Rasmus Ankersen saw Liverpool’s latest offer as a “low-ball” bid.
Given Lavia has only had one season at the senior level in the Premier League, £42million is seen as a completely fair offer, and yet now it appears Southampton want even more than what their asking price has been for much of the window.
