As Liverpool’s clever transfer strategy fails, André’s move is expedited, and Roméo Lavia is acquired in the perfect summer.

Liverpool still has a lot of work to do in the transfer market, as moves for both André and Roméo Lavia are a possibility, and an FSG transfer ploy may be losing its effectiveness.

Liverpool knows what needs doing before the end of the summer, which is now only 29 days away. In exactly 29 days — to the minute when this article is published — the transfer window will slam shut.

On the agenda primarily is finding a new number six, with Curtis Jones and others having stepped into that role over the course of the last few weeks. No permanent solution, though, has emerged.

Thiago Alcântara and Stefan Bajčetić should both soon return to full training, but the former is not a perfect fit for that position, where there are a lot of defensive demands, while the latter is only 18.

But there are not going to be any cheap fixes for Liverpool to turn to, not least because the Reds have banked $66m (£52m/€60m) from Saudi Arabia for Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.

Here are the two Liverpool.com stories from today that you shouldn’t miss, starting with a look at what still needs to be done in the transfer market before the end of the summer in an ideal scenario for Jürgen Klopp and Jörg Schmadtke.
