Man Utd’s departure meets snags when Arsenal receives a transfer offer after making a David Raya deal.

Nottingham Forest have submitted an opening offer for Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner after negotiations stalled with Manchester United for Dean Henderson. Steve Cooper’s side are still without an undisputed No.1 heading into their Premier League opener against the Gunners on August 12 after last season’s loanees Keylor Navas and Henderson returned to their parent clubs after helping the Tricky Trees beat the drop.

Forest have tried to sign England international Henderson on a permanent deal which was likely to be a loan with an obligation-to-buy centred around top-flight appearances.

But following extensive delays, United are still reluctant to sanction Henderson’s departure without securing the signing of his replacement as the Red Devils continue to explore options including Fenerbahce’s Altay Bayindir.

Now Forest are understood to have launched an opening bid for Turner, who wants to make the move to the City Ground as he is keen to pursue regular Premier League football. The two clubs have been discussing the deal for a matter of weeks.

Arsenal remain in negotiations with Brentford for David Raya and although sources are not prepared to discuss the numbers involved, it’s understood Arsenal have offered an initial £20m plus add-ons for the Spaniard, who is now in the final year of his Brentford contract.

The Bees had initially been demanding a £40m fee for the 27-year-old but they now look set to drop that figure as there has been reluctance to match their asking price.

Arsenal are hopeful of concluding a deal for long-term target Raya, who they tried to sign in the summer of 2020 and he would rival Aaron Ramsdale for the No.1 spot at the Emirates Stadium.

Raya has already agreed personal terms with the Gunners and would favour the move over a switch to Bayern Munich.

Bayern are no longer considered to be a threat for that reason although their interest remains as they seek to replace Inter Milan-linked goalkeeper Yann Sommer following his swift six-month stint in Bavaria.
