Michael Owen has backed Manchester City to pip Arsenal to the Premier League title next season.

The Gunners led the league for the majority of the 2022/23 campaign but they ran out of gas in the final few months, drawing three consecutive matches in April to relinquish their lead to eventual treble winners City. Now, ex-Real Madrid and Manchester United striker Owen has backed Pep Guardiola’s side to win their fourth league title in a row next term, with Mikel Arteta and Co in second.

He predicted another one of his former teams, Liverpool, to finish third whilst United make up the rest of the top four. Chelsea were backed to come fifth, Tottenham Hotspur ninth and West Ham United eleventh.

Reds icon Graeme Souness also recently forecasted the Citizens to clinch the title again next term. “I don’t think the Premier League is in danger of becoming a one-trick pony, but I do think Manchester City will be champions again,” Souness told the Sky Bet Fan Hope Survey.

“They are the strongest team, they’ve got the best group of players I’ve ever known in the Premier League, because they have the structure right – they have football people making footballing decisions. They’ve got a manager who is vastly experienced and successful.

“They’ve got the best players – and it’s the best players that win you leagues. I think there will be the same challenger this year – Arsenal will challenge City.”
