The Germany international only joined the Spanish champions this summer as a free agent.
Gundogan however agreed to join Barca on the condition that he is registered to play in the league by August 12, which is the day before their opener against Getafe.
Otherwise, his contract would be terminated and he would leave for a new club.
With nine days to go, things are still up in the air, although both the player and the club are confident his registration will be completed in time, which is starting to run out.
