After coming 12th in the last campaign, it is going to be hard for Chelsea to be any worse. They also now have an exceptional manager at the helm in Mauricio Pochettino.
Nevertheless, Antonio does not think that the Blues have enough to make a return to the top four.
On Pochettino’s side, he said: “I feel like it’s going to be fifth or sixth place this year, to build on for next year.”
Where will Chelsea finish this season?
Manchester City and Arsenal are the top two teams in the country. Right now, you would probably have to back both sides to finish first and second.
Liverpool may fancy their chances of claiming the runners-up spot or possibly even more, especially if they go on to land Moises Caicedo.
Already, that is three places, while you cannot ignore the likes of Manchester United and Newcastle United, who were both impressive last season.
Ultimately, it is not impossible that Chelsea finish in the top four. Again, Pochettino is a brilliant coach, while not having to play in Europe could really benefit the club, as it did when they won the Premier League title in 2017.
Their lack of proven midfielders right now, though, as well as the unavailability of Christopher Nkunku following his knee injury, could cause problems.
You can easily see, then, Chelsea indeed finishing fifth or sixth come May. It would not go down as a successful campaign, but at least fans could view it as progress. But having come 12th last term, the only way now for a club like Chelsea is up, so improvement is only to be expected.
So the question is, how much do Chelsea need to improve for supporters to be satisfied this season?
