That is according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
Tavolieri reported on Twitter last night that Chelsea have agreed a £50million deal to sign Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia.
It is understood the Blues could offer the Saints star a five-year deal with the option of a further year. The 19-year-old has already said goodbye to some teammates at St Mary’s, too.
He added that Chelsea have moved to jump ahead of Liverpool in the race to sign Lavia, but it’s not totally unrealistic that the latter could return with a fresh move of their own.
On top of that, journalist Ben Jacobs has said on Twitter that Chelsea have already agreed personal terms with the Southampton midfielder.
As we’ve seen with the Moises Caicedo transfer saga this week, agreeing a deal for a transfer target doesn’t necessarily guarantee he joins your club.
The Athletic explained yesterday that Liverpool agreed a £110million deal with Brighton for highly-rated midfielder Caicedo. However, journalist Fabrizio Romano shared on Twitter that Caicedo rejected a move to Liverpool because he only wants a move to Chelsea this summer.
Incidentally, the latest in the Caicedo saga is that Chelsea have made a £115million offer for him (Nathan Gissing).
For Chelsea, Lavia would be a really exciting addition that fits the mould of this very young Mauricio Pochettino squad.
Described as “incredible” by Pep Guardiola (Manchester City’s official website), Lavia showed his quality last year as a teenager in the Premier League with relegated Southampton.
We’re pretty sure he’s got the confidence on the ball and intelligence off it to quickly settle at Stamford Bridge.
Let’s wait and see if this deal gets over the line during a crazy week for transfer stories.
