Stick with us as we bring you all the latest on Liverpool’s tug-of-war pursuit of Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo. The Reds are refusing to walk away from their bid to sign the 21-year-old – as Chelsea prepare to splash out a British record £115million for the player.
The Reds stole a march on the Londoners when Brighton accepted a bid of around £110m for Caicedo in the early hours of Friday morning, with the Seagulls having set a midnight cut-off for their auction of the wantaway 21-year-old. But Chelsea are set to return and up their offer.
Chelsea were also said to be close to signing Liverpool’s other defensive midfield target Romeo Lavia from Southampton. The London side had talks with Southampton on Friday over a deal of an initial £52m plus a further £3m in add-ons for the 19-year-old. Fresh reports suggest Liverpool are still monitoring that situation too.
If all that drama wasn’t enough, the two sides meet at Stamford Bridge this afternoon in their first Premier League game of the season. Expect plenty of needle in that one.
Liverpool expected to match Chelsea’s Romeo Lavia bid
TalkSPORT have reported that Chelsea are expected to reach an agreement with Brighton for Moises Caicedo.
Liverpool are said to be expecting to match the Londoners’ £55m move for Romeo Lavia.
Romeo Lavia to Liverpool not over
Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri has reported that Liverpool want to “level up” their offer to match Chelsea’s for Romeo Lavia.
He says it’s not over for Liverpool.
In a tweet, he said: “#LiverpoolFC on the battle again with #ChelseaFC for Romeo #Lavia as they want to level up their offer to #CFC bid offered (and accepted but up to player’s decision that why ‘’not officially communicated as accepted’) in order to let the choice to the player to decide. And his mind hasn’t till changed… It’s not over for #LFC, back in the race. Confirmed.
Chelsea finalising Moises Caicedo deal as Romeo Lavia battle continues
According to Jacob Steinberg, Chelsea are still finalising a £115m deal for Moises Caicedo but it has been said that the Brighton midfielder will not be going anywhere else.
He continues to report that Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia is also subject to interest from Chelsea and Liverpool but negotiations are ongoing – with no agreement yet.
