- Liverpool visit Chelsea in the Premier League in a huge clash for two revamped heavyweights who struggled last season. The game kicked off at 4:30pm local time (15:30 GMT).
- It will be Mauricio Pochettino’s first competitive game in charge of Chelsea, while Jurgen Klopp begins his eighth season in charge of Liverpool.
- Both start with much-changed teams after key departures to Saudi Arabia, and the clubs have been battling each other in the summer transfer window – notably over Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo.
- Chelsea finished 12th last season, their lowest Premier League position since 1994, while Liverpool finished fifth and failed to qualify for the Champions League
Chelsea likely happier with the draw
The Blues will probably be the happier side as Pochettino heads off to warm applause. They got back into the game after a shaky start and dominated for large stretches. With more composure in the final third they could have easily won and their new boss will be pleased with the obvious progress from last season.
Klopp will no doubt be frustrated with his side’s ongoing problems in defence and the failure to create much at all in the second half.
Their rivals will hardly be trembling after watching this but both sides are works in progress and are sure to make more moves in the transfer market before the window ends on August 31.
