The Premier League season is finally underway as the Reds got their campaign off to a mediocre start with a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge. In the grand scheme of things, it’s a positive point for Liverpool as they look to bolster their squad before their first home match against AFC Bournemouth.
Onto the latest transfer speculation, Chelsea are said to be on the brink of sealing a deal with Brighton & Hove Albion to sign Moises Caicedo.
As we know, Liverpool agreed a fee with the Ecuadorian midfielder but the Londoners re-emerged in the race to acquire his signature and, if reports are to be believed, looks destined to make the move.
Romeo Lavia is a player who also remains firmly linked with Liverpool. Reports out of Belgium and England claim that the Reds are looking to match Chelsea’s £55m bid for the Southampton man.
Carragher explains Liverpool transfer error
Jamie Carragher has conceded it is “not right” that Liverpool struck a transfer deal with Brighton & Hove Albion for Moises Caicedo before ascertaining whether or not the player himself wanted the move.
The Reds have been in limbo over the Ecuadorian after Chelsea were allowed to re-enter the race for the 21-year-old, despite Jurgen Klopp’s side striking a £110m fee with the Seagulls on Friday. It seemed clear that Caicedo would be heading for Anfield at this stage, though this saga then took a dramatic twist later that afternoon.
Reports began to emerge suggesting the midfielder was having ‘second thoughts’ over joining Liverpool and would be waiting for Chelsea to better their rivals’ bid due to his preference of signing for the Londoners. And our chief LFC writer Ian Doyle reported on Sunday night that Chelsea have now agreed a £115m deal with Brighton.
The public nature of this transfer battle is certainly out of character for the Reds, who so often go under the radar with their business, a noticeable change that has left Carragher concerned.
Tchouameni ‘admiration’
Liverpool are reportedly among a number of leading clubs who retain a long-term admiration for Aurelien Tchouameni.
That’s according to The Athletic, who are also reporting that Real Madrid see the midfielder as a key player and would not consider his departure, while the player has no interest in leaving.
Tchouameni only joined Real last summer and was heavily linked with a move to Anfield, with Liverpool maintaining a strong interest in the midfielder.
Liverpool agree ‘£60m Lavia deal’
Liverpool have reportedly agreed a £60m deal to sign Romeo Lavia from Southampton.
That’s according to the Guardian, who are reporting that Liverpool must still convince the midfielder to choose them over Chelsea.
The report also goes on to claim that Liverpool are the only club with an agreement with Southampton to sign Lavia, and Chelsea will have to raise their bid.
The soccerhuz.com reported on Sunday night that the Reds were likely to return again for the 19-year-old, having already had three bids rejected.
