Chelsea are seemingly competing for almost every player on the planet as they look to add new names to their squad for the 2023/24 season.
With Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia the two highest profile targets at this stage, Michael Olise remains on the cards whilst Brighton are yet to confirm Mohammed Kudus and a new goalkeeper is also in order. It all bodes for an extremely interesting final three weeks of the summer window.
One player they have long been after but failed to sign is Ousmane Dembele. The tricky winger was in the mix to arrive in 2022 under Thomas Tuchel as he looked to reunite with a player that had shone at Borussia Dortmund. As Dembele’s contract at Barcelona wound down, ending in June last year, Chelsea made their move to snap him up.
In what proved to be a common occurrence throughout, Xavi’s side thwarted their attempts to do pretty much any business and ended up retaining the player onto a new deal. 12 months later and another few links of a move to Stamford Bridge later, Dembele has joined Paris Saint-Germain.
He put pen to paper on a deal keeping him in the French capital until 2028 on Saturday. He will now team up with international teammate and good friend Kylian Mbappe as well as Presnel Kimpembe and others. It ends a transfer saga with Chelsea and starts a new dawn for the 26-year-old.
Soccerhuz.com says: There were times last year that Dembele to Chelsea not only looked to be on but also looked to make serious sense. Barcelona were at the trough of their financial slump for 2022 and Todd Boehly was just getting started.
