Mauricio Pochettino’s side kicked off their 2023/24 campaign against Jürgen Klopp’s men in west London today without a sponsor on the famous blue shirt, which left a number of people confused.
So, why do Chelsea not have a sponsor? Let’s take a look…
Why do Chelsea not have a sponsor?
Well, the reason for this is actually quite simple.
Chelsea’s three-year contract with 3 UK expired at the end of last season, meaning the Blues were left needing a new sponsorship deal.
There was an agreement with Paramount Plus – a streaming service based in the United States – although the Premier League rejected that partnership due to concerns about their own broadcasting deals.
Chelsea also spoke to Stake – who have sponsored Everton and Watford in recent years – although that was abandoned after supporters voiced their disapproval with the gambling firm.
As a result, Chelsea have been left without a shirt sponsor for the opening day of their 2023/24 campaign, although an end to this situation does appear to be near.
Infinite Athlete – according to the Daily Mail – are nearing a £40m agreement with the Blues, and their logo will appear on the shirt from today’s game onwards, presumably.
In their preview of the clash between Chelsea and Liverpool, Sky Sports actually seemed to leak how the Infinite Athlete logo will look when it eventually adorns the shirt on an official basis.
For anybody who loved how Chelsea’s shirt looked without a sponsor, we’re afraid to disappoint you – in our view, we much prefer how it appears without a logo plastered across the front.
So, while Chelsea were without a sponsor for today’s encounter against Liverpool, it seemingly won’t be that way for long.
