Liverpool could look to beat Manchester United to Sofyan Amrabat this summer after missing out on two midfield targets, according to reports.
The Reds have made a hash of their attempts to bring in a new midfielder over the last few weeks after their impressive early double capture of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.
Unexpected departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabia means Jurgen Klopp will attempt to bring in at least one more midfielder this summer.
Liverpool had been bidding for Southampton’s Romeo Lavia, with the Saints rejecting a number of bids from the Reds, before the Merseysiders struck a British record agreement with Brighton for Moises Caicedo.
However, Caicedo chose to move to Chelsea instead, leaving Liverpool to agree a fee for Lavia which was £10m above Southampton’s original £50m asking price.
But Lavia, annoyed at being made to feel like ‘second choice’, has decided to join Chelsea too as Liverpool suffered a double transfer embarrassment.

And now the Daily Mail claim that Liverpool could now reignite their interest in top Man Utd target Amrabat – who plays for Fiorentina – while Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips has again been mooted as a target.
‘Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat, who is a target of Manchester United, and Kalvin Phillips of Manchester City were two names who had been ruled out prior to recent events. But they too are believed to be under consideration in the club’s current predicament.’
And Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri insists Liverpool “lost too much time last week with low offers” for Lavia with the Reds the Southampton midfielder’s “initial personal preference”.
Tavolieri said on Twitter: “Sources told Romeo #Lavia’s felt #LiverpoolFC played with him that’s why he decided to go for #ChelseaFC. He was there… waiting for them & felt like they didn’t considered him as a priority.
“A sign of this was that when he was waiting for them, while negociating, he understood that #LFC was already seeking for other options. On the other side, #Chelsea has always kept the same line with the same speech to the player and a a faithful and upright will.
“As written yesterday, Liverpool lost too much time last week with low offers before the #Blues assault… That’s one of the reasons why he will be a Chelsea player next season even if his initial personal preference was the Reds. #mercato”
