Liverpool looks to be moving on quickly from the Moisés Caicedo and Roméo Lavia sagas, with Wataru Endo seemingly set to become the third signing of the summer.
Having been beaten by Chelsea to both Caicedo and Lavia, the Reds have had to look toward other options to fill the void in the number six role.
That has led them to Stuttgart star Endo, who already looks to have made his way to Merseyside, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the Japan international is undergoing the first part of his medical amid a $20m (£15m/€18m) transfer from Germany.
At 30 years old though, it’s clear that Endo won’t be a long-term option for Liverpool, and other signings still need to be considered this summer.
Thankfully, reports from Germany suggest two further midfielders are being eyed up by Jürgen Klopp. The Reds boss will still need to sign a defender as well, but one target may be about to make that job a little harder.
Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today.
Ryan Gravenberch (Bayern Munich) & Manu Koné (Borussia Mönchengladbach)
Liverpool is still interested in Ryan Gravenberch, according to Christian Falk, while Manu Koné could also be under consideration.
The Reds will be eyeing up their next signing as they close in on Endo, and both Gravenberch and Koné would fit the bill as younger players to go alongside the Japan international.
Gonçalo Inácio (Sporting CP)
Gonçalo Inácio is set to sign a new contract at Sporting CP, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The defender is expected to sign a new long-term contract in Lisbon, which will see a new release clause of around $65m (£51m/€60m) applied. That might not put off Liverpool though, with Portuguese outlet Diario de Noticias (via Sport Bible) suggesting the Reds could be lining up a move for the 21-year-old in spite of Sporting’s desire to get him tied down to a new contract.
