Jurgen Klopp sends a new Liverpool transfer signal, but mocks the £100 million hypothesis.

Jurgen Klopp has reiterated Liverpool want to further reinforce their squad this transfer window – but does not expect to have close to £100million to splash out on new players.

The Reds took their summer spending up to £110m when they confirmed the arrival of defensive midfielder Wataru Endo for £16.25m from Stuttgart on Friday.

Liverpool had already undertaken an expensive engine room overhaul with the signings of £35m Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and £60m Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig.

Klopp had also wanted to bring in Moises Caicedo with a £110m offer accepted by Brighton last week, only for the player to instead move to Chelsea for a higher fee

And the Liverpool boss – who admitted earlier this summer he was seeking a new centre-back – understands funding for transfers is a complex matter.

“It is not, from my experience, meaning that you take the fee paid from the money not spent and the gap between that is the money available,” laughed Klopp when it was suggested fans might wonder where the money from the Caicedo bid has gone.

“I don’t think that is the case and it is not a problem.

“When there are the right players we will have a look. We are definitely still in the market watching and seeing what is going on and what we can do. We try to strengthen the squad, definitely, and that’s it.”
