Much was made of Manchester United’s inability to take points off top-half sides on their travels last season. Erik ten Hag’s men took just four points away from home off the other nine teams who finished in the top half last term, and yesterday’s defeat to Tottenham suggests their poor record may be set to continue.
Pape Sarr’s second-half goal and an own goal from Lisandro Martinez settled the scores in north London, with Ten Hag admitting after the game that his side’s profligacy in front of goal remains an issue.
United’s midfield yet again looked disjointed after Monday’s poor showing at home to Wolves, and Ten Hag may now be tempted to dip back into the market after seeing his side struggle in their opening two league games.
