There isn’t much time left in the summer transfer window and Manchester United could yet make one more signing.
MEN Sport revealed today that Ryan Gravenberch is on Erik ten Hag’s wishlist, with the United boss open to making a late move for the Bayern Munich midfielder. The pair worked together at Ajax and it’s understood Ten Hag is keen on a reunion.
United’s hunt for a midfielder comes after they were torn apart in the centre of the park against Wolves and Tottenham last week. The club had already been linked with a move for Sofyan Amrabat after Fred left for Fenerbahce and Ten Hag confirmed Donny van de Beek would not be considered for selection.
It’s unclear whether Van de Beek will complete a move away before next Friday’s deadline, and he’s not the only one whose future is up in the air. Harry Maguire, Brandon Williams and Eric Bailly are just some of the players who could well head for pastures new before next week’s deadline.
OPINION: Fernandes is facing five key days at United
“Ironically, despite his criticism, Bruno Fernandes will need to channel his inner Roy Keane at Carrington this week. Similarly to this time last year, all eyes are firmly on United following their sub-par start to the season. Once again, questions are being asked about the desire and quality of the players. Heads in the camp will have dropped but the task is not solely Erik ten Hag’s to lift them.”
Palace ‘in talks’ to sign Henderson
Crystal Palace are ‘in talks’ with United to sign goalkeeper Dean Henderson, according to the Evening Standard.
The London club are reportedly keen on signing the England international on loan with an obligation to sign him permanently next summer.
The 26-year-old spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest but has not played since January because of a thigh injury. He has started each of United’s opening two Premier League games this season on the bench.
United unhappy over Bruno Fernandes booking vs Spurs
United are unhappy with referee Michael Oliver’s refusal to engage with Bruno Fernandes during Saturday’s defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
Skipper Fernandes is entitled to approach a referee and when the Portuguese queried a yellow card for teammate Antony in the 38th minute, he was swiftly booked.
OPINION: United could already have the answer to their biggest problem
“Once again, scoring goals proves to be the biggest problem for United, and we are still a few weeks away from discovering whether or not they have a solution in the shape of Rasmus Hojlund. United made signing a striker their priority this summer and chose to roll the dice with a move for the raw talent of Hojlund, who netted nine goals in Serie A last season. Expectations need to be eased on Hojlund when he is back in shape, though, and the weight of responsibility shouldn’t have to fall on him alone to transform United’s profligacy into potency.”
United agree to sell Emeran
United have reached an agreement with Dutch outfit FC Groningen to sell winger Noam Emeran.
The youngster, who scored in United’s 2-0 win over Leeds United in Oslo last month, is being allowed to leave in order to try and secure a first-team breakthrough elsewhere. The Reds are well-stocked in wide areas and game time could be hard for the Frenchman to achieve.
Foster announces retirement
Former United goalkeeper Ben Foster has announced his retirement for the second time.
The shot-stopper, 40, has made the decision to hang up his gloves just four games into the new League Two season. Foster returned to Wrexham last season and helped them clinch promotion from the National League, ending their long exile from the Football League.
Pavard ‘rejects’ United switch
According to a report by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard has ‘rejected’ a move to United in favour of joining Inter Milan.
The Frenchman, who can operate as both a right-back and a centre-back, has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks. However, Inter are now poised to win the race for his signature and he could finalise the move as soon as today.
United’s two remaining fixtures before the break
Though we’re only two games into the new Premier League season, there are only two rounds of fixtures left ahead of the first international break of the season.
United have won one and lost one of their opening two matches, losing 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, resulting in their latest away day setback.
Ahead of the break in early-September, these are United’s next two games:
vs Nottingham Forest (H) – August 26vs Arsenal (A) – September 3
Palace ‘interested’ in Henderson
Crystal Palace are ‘interested’ in signing United goalkeeper Dean Henderson, according to a report by BBC Sport.
With just over of the week of the transfer window remaining, the former Nottingham Forest loanee’s future at Old Trafford remains up in the air. He has not played since January because of a thigh injury, but has been on the bench for each of United’s opening two matches this season.
Saudi club ‘weighing up’ move for Varane
Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad are ‘weighing up’ a move for United centre-back Raphael Varane, according to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, as cited by Inside Futbol.
A number of big-name Premier League players have swapped England for the Saudi league this summer and Varane is the latest name to be linked with a move.
The Frenchman, however, is a key player for Erik ten Hag and scored the winner in last Monday’s 1-0 win over Wolves at Old Trafford.
United considering late move for Ryan Gravenberch
United are considering a late move for Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch.
Gravenberch, who played under United manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax, has been a peripheral figure at Bayern since he joined the Bundesliga champions last summer.
Liverpool have been linked with Gravenberch, 21, after missing out on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, who both joined Chelsea.
Pavard ‘picks’ his next club amid United links
Benjamin Pavard has reportedly decided against a move to United this summer.
Corriere dello Sport suggest Pavard has chosen to join Inter Milan over United, though they warn the Serie A giants have yet to make a formal offer.
