Youssouf Fofana is reportedly stalling on joining Nottingham Forest in hope of landing a bigger move, with Liverpool interested in the midfielder.
According to the Daily Mail, the AS Monaco star is yet to accept as a £30m move to the City Ground with Fofana now holding out that a bigger club in the Premier League makes an equivalent offer.
As per the report, Liverpool, as well as Chelsea and West Ham, have been interested in signing the French international this season, though a bid is yet to be made for Fofana.
With Liverpool in the market for a fourth midfield signing, Fofana would fit the bill for what the Reds are looking for in the final days of the summer market.
However, given Fofana’s profile, there might be some hesitancy from the Liverpool board to move for the midfielder despite his asking price, international reputation and his age.
Indeed, the Reds seem keen on signing a much younger midfielder who has the dynamism to play a more forward role as well as defensive one, something Fofana might struggle with in relation to the former.
Liverpool should really consider Fofana move
By all accounts, Fofana is most likely to move to Forest despite the midfielder’s eagerness to join one of the Premier League’s European-competing teams, which might lead to Liverpool considering a move.
With a midfield spot still in need of being filled, Fofana could be the player to take up the role if Liverpool start to get desperate for a new signing.
However, the Monaco man should only be considered if pursuits for Ryan Gravenberch or Andre Trindade turn up nothing.
