Hello and welcome to our LIVE Liverpool transfer blog for Tuesday, August 22.
Kalvin Phillips is the latest name to join the Liverpool transfer merry-go-round, with the England international being touted with a shock move to Anfield just 12 months after making the switch to Manchester City.
Meanwhile, Borussia Monchengladbach have claimed it would take an “immense offer” for the Bundesliga outfit to consider selling the midfielder Manu Kone this summer. The Reds have been one of the many teams linked with a swoop for Kone this window.
Elsewhere, we will be bringing you all of the latest on Liverpool’s decision to appeal Alexis Mac Allister’s red card against Bournemouth at the weekend. As well as all the developments on the Anfield Road expansion as it enters a critical final stage ahead of its delayed opening.
Liverpool unbeaten but what are the title odds?
Liverpool are outsiders to win the Premier League.
Although they’ve made a promising start, results-wise at least, Manchester City and Arsenal remain frontrunners.
Pep Guardiola’s side are resounding favourites after continuing their 100 percent record with their 1-0 win over Newcastle United.
The Reds visit the Magpies on Sunday as two of the European contenders look to make an early statement in the hunt for top four.
Liverpool agree personal terms with Andre
Liverpool have reportedly reached an agreement over personal terms with Fluminense midfielder Andre.
That is according to Emmanuel Luiz who was speaking on Redmen TV.
He said: “Manchester United went to Andre’s camp to talk to them about a possible negotiation. What they said [was] the player has personal terms agreed with Liverpool, personal already agreed. That’s done.
“The player said to Fluminense, the situation today – I called some guys close to Andre – and they said to me, Andre said to Fluminense ‘I want to go to Liverpool, I want to go, I have personal terms agreed’. That’s fine but what Fluminense said [was] we are not going to say right now because of the Copa Libertadores that we already know.
“So Andre said ‘I’m going to talk to them [Liverpool].”
Globo reported that Fluminense have reiterated their intentions to keep ahold of midfielder Andre.
As per the report from the outlet, Liverpool signalled a fee in the region of €30m (£25m), including bonuses, but the Serie A side reaffirmed their position that Andre will not be sold until the end of the current season in South America.
It has been reported that a move was pinned on whether Fernando Diniz’s side could advance beyond the Round of 16 in the Copa Libertadores. Ultimately, they did – beating Argentina Juniors – and now Liverpool could be forced to wait until January to welcome him.
Globo claim that Liverpool’s reluctance to lodge a formal bid comes after Fluminense issued their firm stance.
Marcel Desailly on nearly joining Liverpool
It’s the transfer window so who doesn’t love a story?
I certainly do.
Former Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly has revealed that he almost signed for Liverpool during his career.
The Frenchman would win the Champions League with Marseille and AC Milan before enjoying domestic honours with the Londoners.
Speaking to BoyleSports, who offer the latest
Premier League odds, he said: “I was interested in joining Liverpool in 1998, they made a good proposal. But the area didn’t have a French school for my kids and the lifestyle was a problem compared to London.
“The lifestyle is probably why I joined Chelsea over Liverpool, yes. My wife made a real statement that she didn’t want me to drive between London and Liverpool while she stayed in London and my four kids did not have a French school. It’s one of the reasons at the time I chose Chelsea.
Footballers are human beings, we have to deal with the internal elements that help us make decisions. And small things like that sometimes make the difference, because the money will be good wherever you go. You are trying to make the best deal out of the proposal, but at the end of the day you don’t really care. What you care about is also the lifestyle you are going to have on top of your football.”
Liverpool favourites to sign Kalvin Phillips
Liverpool are odds on to sign Kalvin Phillips this summer.
The Reds are reportedly eyeing the Manchester City midfielder as their fourth summer signing.
Betfair believe that the Reds are favourites to sign the former Leeds United man.
