Liverpool may get transfer boost from $51m move as Alexis Mac Allister appeal decision confirmed

Liverpool could be set for a considerable windfall thanks to a Michael Edwards trick, while there's been an official update on Alexis Mac Allister

Liverpool could be in line for some of the proceeds if West Ham manages to sign Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth.

According to Football Insider, West Ham has made an offer potentially worth as much as $51m (£40m/€47m) for Solanke, and is awaiting a response. Another Premier League side is showing ‘concrete’ interest too.

As the ECHO points out, Liverpool holds a sell-on clause that will see it earn 20 per cent of any profit the Cherries make on the $24m (£19m/€22m) fee it paid for Solanke in 2019 in a deal negotiated by then-sporting director Michael Edwards.

As such, if he was to leave for $51m, the Reds would be in line to receive a handy $2.7m windfall, boosting their coffers ahead of the end of the summer transfer window.

Liverpool signed Solanke in 2017 following his departure from Chelsea (it agreed a compensatory fee with the London club) but he only spent one full season at Anfield.

Solanke would play 27 matches in that time and only score one goal, but he’s been more successful at Bournemouth, netting 57 times in 176 matches, including six times in the Premier League last season.

On Saturday, the 25-year-old played the full 90 minutes as Andoni Iraola’s men fell to a 3-1 defeat against the Reds at Anfield.

Liverpool officially lodges Alexis Mac Allister appeal

Liverpool has formally appealed the red card shown to midfielder Alexis Mac Allister during Saturday’s victory over Bournemouth, according to The Mirror.

Mac Allister, who was making his home debut following a $45m (£35m/€41m) summer move from Brighton, was dismissed just before the hour mark for a challenge on Ryan Christie.

Reds manager Jürgen Klopp voiced his disapproval after the game, insisting the tackle did not meet enough of the criteria for a red card and hinting that the club would challenge the verdict.

“I think the amount of times I got asked about it shows already it is worth discussing it again, which we will probably do,” he said (via Liverpool’s official website). “I saw it back now, in the game I couldn’t… I asked Macca and he said, ‘I touched him but not really.’ That was all he told me.

“After the game, I saw it back now and I think if you have a list of points of what you need to give a red card, I think the majority — besides contact — nothing else, no other boxes ticked in that moment.

“After the game, I saw it back now and I think if you have a list of points of what you need to give a red card, I think the majority — besides contact — nothing else, no other boxes ticked in that moment.

“I think it is a decision we all agree if he gives a yellow card the VAR would not overturn it. He gave a red card and the VAR is not overturning it because the contact means there is no clear and obvious [error].

“Mistake, but I think the punishment [of] 40 minutes with 10 men in that weather today is already punishment enough, but let’s see. I don’t know. We have to talk to the authorities.”

If the appeal is unsuccessful, then Liverpool will be without Mac Allister for its next three matches, starting with this weekend’s away trip to Newcastle United and also encompassing a home game against Aston Villa and a visit to Wolves.

New signing Wataru Endo could be called upon to start in that event, having made his debut as a substitute against Bournemouth.
