Man Utd win the £20 million battle, adding to Klopp’s misery as Liverpool’s transfer window comes to a conclusion.

To complete Jurgen Klopp's roster, Liverpool must make a crucial move in the crucial final week of the transfer market.

Liverpool will be hoping to end what has turned into a tortuous transfer window on a high in the next few days as the club continue their search for a fourth midfield signing. Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia slipped through their fingers and Ryan Gravenberch now appears to be the top priority. Express Sport takes a look at what Liverpool’s worst-case scenario would be to end the summer window.

Man Utd win £20m race

Gravenberch appears to be Liverpool’s main target for the final few days of the window and the player is said to be open for a move. It looks to be a straight shootout between Liverpool and Manchester United for Gravenberch’s signature.

And the Red Devils may have an advantage in negotiations for the midfielder as Erik ten Hag gave him his professional debut at Ajax. It was under Ten Hag where Gravenberch established himself as one of Europe’s most exciting talents and a reunion would be more than understandable.

Liverpool will have to hope the allure of working with Jurgen Klopp is enough, but they’ll also have to match United’s financial power. If the Reds see another top target join a direct rival then that will round off a disappointing window.

Klopp torment grows

It was 12 months ago when Liverpool had to delve into the market for an emegency midfield signing after a host of injuries to their midfield unit. Thiago Alcantara is currently the only player out injured for Klopp at the moment while Curtis Jones and Stefan Bajcetic are carrying knocks.

Liverpool still have to navigate a tricky match away at Newcastle this weekend before the transfer window closes and plenty can happen in the next week. Wataru Endo’s arrival has already proven necessary after Alexis Mac Allister was sent off last weekend with no other midfielder capable of filling in the No 6 role.

Klopp will hope he can rely on Bajcetic and Jones more this season, but the young duo can’t be rushed back to full fitness. The Liverpool boss appears to have an ever-changing injury list and another few setbacks will put him in another difficult situation akin to what happened last year.

Saudi swoop

Every Premier League will be wary of it happening but Saudi Arabia’s spending shows no signs of stopping. Big money has been spent on the likes of Neymar, N’Golo Kante, Karim Benzema and many others but more and more players are being linked with lucrative moves to the Middle East.

For Liverpool, reports have suggested Alisson and Mohamed Salah are attracting plenty of interest. Salah’s agent has ruled out a possible departure this summer, but representatives have gone back on their word before.

Losing even just one of Alisson or Salah would spell disaster for Klopp so late in the window.
