Sunday afternoon’s challenging trip to Newcastle United awaits Liverpool, who will be trying to make it two straight victories in the Premier League.
In Liverpool’s most recent game, goals from Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, and Luis Diaz helped the Reds defeat Bournemouth 3-1 for their first league victory of the year after a 1-1 draw against Chelsea on the opening weekend. The Reds’ match against Newcastle at St. James’ Park on Sunday, though, is anticipated to be one of their toughest tests of the season.
Darwin Nez and Cody Gakpo each scored once as the Reds defeated the Magpies 2-0 on the road in the previous campaign. Following a musculoskeletal injury, Ibrahima Konate will not play on Sunday.
We simulated Newcastle vs Liverpool to get a score prediction
To complete this simulation, we used FIFA 23 and updated the squads with the latest injuries, transfers and suspensions. FIFA 23 is not up to date with the latest kits or numbers, so both sides are in the kits from the 2022/23 season.
We predict that the Magpies could set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: Pope; Trippier, Schar, Botman, Burn; Guimaraes, Tonali, Joelinton; Almiron, Isak, Gordon.
We predict that the Reds could line up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Endō, Szoboszlai, Mac Allister; Salah, Gakpo, Díaz.
Cody Gakpo thought he had netted his first goal of the season in the 56th minute when he stabbed the ball through the legs of Nick Pope at the front post, but the striker was judged to be offside when the ball was crossed in, and the goal was ruled out. After a quiet first half, Liverpool turned up the heat after the restart, and they took a well-deserved lead in the 71st minute.
Salah did well to beat his man on the right and surge toward goal before whipping an early cross into the center of the box. The ball hung in the air which enticed Pope to charge off his line, but the ‘keeper misjudged it, with Díaz beating the Englishman to head the ball bravely into an empty net.
Gakpo came close twice in the following 10 minutes when he was sent through one-on-one, but a great save and a fantastic last-ditch challenge kept the score at 1-0. Newcastle had rarely threatened in the final 30 minutes of the game, but an error at the back allowed the Magpies to level the score in the 89th minute.
Andy Robertson scuffed his clearance on the edge of the box to a Newcastle man in the middle, allowing the hosts to charge at the Liverpool defense in numbers. Alexander Isak was fed through on goal, and his cross into the box was met by Joelinton who got in behind Trent Alexander-Arnold to poke past Alisson and make it 1-1.
FIFA 23 predicted final score: Newcastle 1-1 Liverpool
FIFA 23 predicts that Liverpool could pick up a hard-earned point on the road, drawing 1-1 with Newcastle in the simulation. Luis Díaz and Cody Gakpo both starred in the victory with the latter denied multiple times, though some poor defending allowed the hosts to steal two points off Klopp’s side.
