Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has dismissed any notion that he and his teammates feel let down by a lack of transfer activity at Anfield during the summer window.
Despite Liverpool missing out on transfer targets such as Moisés Caicedo and Roméo Lavia, the Brazilian shot-stopper insists that the squad remains united and focused on delivering results on the pitch. While Liverpool has made three signings — Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endō — time is running out for additional transfers before the deadline on Friday.
The recent failures to secure Caicedo and Lavia, who both opted for Chelsea instead, have raised concerns about the midfield department. However, the arrival of Japan captain Endō has given Jürgen Klopp a strong new option in the position.
Alisson was speaking after Liverpool’s hard-fought 2-1 victory against Newcastle United. Asked about the club’s recruitment, he replied: “There are so many talks around us, about our feelings about the transfer window, please don’t put words in our mouth. We are together, we believe in ourselves and we showed that here against Newcastle in a tough place.
“We said in the changing room at half-time we should have chances and we should believe we are capable of doing something here. We did it. There are so many games we played, but this one is one of a kind.”
Alisson’s performance in the match against Newcastle was exceptional, as he made a career-high seven saves in a single Premier League fixture. When asked about this statistic, Alisson humbly said, via the Liverpool ECHO: “It was that many? I remember that one, it was really good. I am here for that, this is part of my job. The team is there to try and help me and avoid them having chances.
“Today was about passion and believing. We have to take that forward, keep that high level and focus in every moment and really believe we can do something special this season.”
