Liverpool came from behind for the second weekend in succession to earn a memorable win at Newcastle United on Sunday.
A late brace from substitute Darwin Nunez wiped out an early strike from Anthony Gordon as the Reds secured a 2-1 triumph despite being reduced to 10 men following Virgil van Dijk’s early red card.
Liverpool will now aim to continue their impressive start to the season when they entertain Aston Villa next Sunday.
And here we look ahead to the changes Jurgen Klopp could make when his team are next in action.
Central reservations
Liverpool are almost certain to be without their first-choice centre-back pairing, with Van Dijk suspended and Ibrahima Konate a doubt with the muscle problem that forced him to miss out against Newcastle.
Joel Matip started on Tyneside and was soon joined by Joe Gomez, with Jarell Quansah making his debut from the bench. Nat Phillips could leave before Friday’s transfer deadline.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is likely to continue at right-back with Gomez needed elsewhere and Conor Bradley injured. Andy Robertson was impressive on Sunday and remains ahead of Kostas Tsimikas at left-back, while Alisson Becker once again demonstrated why he is the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper with Caoimhin Kelleher and Adrian deputising.
Same again?
Liverpool will hope to have extra options in midfield with both Thiago Alcantara and Curtis Jones expected to resume full training this week, the former after four months out and the latter a few weeks.
Stefan Bajcetic has gained extra training time but is still awaiting his first minutes having returned to the bench last weekend against Bournemouth after his own lengthy injury absence.
However, it appears the same midfield that started against Newcastle will most likely keep their places, with defensive midfielder Wataru Endo having made his first start and both Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai contributing greatly to the win.
Harvey Elliott once again proved his worth with another impressive cameo and cannot be far off a start, while Cody Gakpo has returned to being an option in attack.
The Nunez question
Perhaps the biggest selection issue for Klopp is whether to reward Nunez for his two goals with only a second start down the centre of the attack since February, with Gakpo and more recently Diogo Jota preferred in that position.
Luis Diaz, who scored in the first two games of the season, was sacrificed when Van Dijk was dismissed, and will come under pressure for his role from both Gakpo and Jota, the latter having hugely impressed from the bench at St James’ Park.
Mohamed Salah has spent large parts of the last two games playing up front in a 4-4-1 with Liverpool down to 10 men, but is first-choice on the right flank. Teenager Ben Doak was again on the bench at the weekend.
