A lot has changed at Liverpool this summer and in an ideal world, more transfers would arrive before Friday’s deadline, which continues to tick ever closer.

On the pitch, Liverpool has shown more than enough positive signs for Jürgen Klopp to be pleased with. It didn’t look like that in the first 20 minutes against Newcastle United but Darwin Núñez then turned the match around.

Off it, just a couple more additions to the Reds’ squad could make for a team that really challenges Manchester City at the top of the table, with Pep Guardiola’s men already setting the early pace with three wins in three matches.

Up next is a home game with Aston Villa which will also provide some difficult moments for Liverpool but get a win there and that is about as good a start to the new season as anyone would have dared to hope for.

In that game, Liverpool will be hoping to at least play with 11 players for the entirety of the 90 minutes, with sendings off (one right and one wrong) in each of its last two fixtures. Here are the latest Liverpool.com stories that you can’t afford to miss.

Jürgen Klopp says official admitted Liverpool mistake

Liverpool boss Klopp refused to accept that Virgil van Dijk deserved to be given a red card at St James’ Park on Sunday afternoon as the Reds came from behind to beat Newcastle United 2-1.

The German also says that the fourth official Craig Pawson admitted that referee John Brookes should have awarded a free-kick to Trent Alexander-Arnold before the full-back was yellow carded for throwing the ball away in frustration.

“There is a foul on Trent which is not given, clear in front of me, the ref doesn’t give it and then Trent kicks the ball away, his fault, bang, yellow,” Klopp said. He also claimed that even the official agreed it should have been a foul, reports the Liverpool ECHO. Despite these contentious moments, the Reds managed to maintain their composure and secure an impressive win.

Sadio Mané mimics Cristiano Ronaldo

Current Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah might not be heading to Saudi Arabia this summer but former Reds star Sadio Mané already has a year after leaving Anfield to sign for Bayern Munich.

And Liverpool fans spotted the 31-year-old doing something he used to do at Liverpool a lot. When the Senegalese forward made it 4-0 to his side (in a 5-0 win), he copied Cristiano Ronaldo’s famous ‘Siu’ celebration, a reminder of his days at Anfield when he used to mimic Roberto Firmino (who is also now in the Middle East).

Mané opened the scoring and netted a brace while Ronaldo got a hat-trick.
