The Blues have paid £42.5m for the England Under-21 international, and the Chelsea No.7 made sure to give his new teammate a warm welcome at Cobham.
So, what did Raheem Sterling do when Cole Palmer arrived at Chelsea earlier today? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well – according to Chelsea’s official website – Sterling marched towards Palmer and gave him a “warm embrace” inside Cobham after unexpectedly bumping into the forward.
It is also said that Chelsea’s new No.20 and the England international have stayed in touch since the latter departed Manchester City for Chelsea in July 2022.
According to the Daily Mail, Sterling was actually a huge advocate of Palmer during their time together at the Etihad Stadium, with the Jamaica-born forward regularly supporting the 21-year-old.
That must have meant the world to Palmer as he attempted to get some game time ahead of the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva.
Cole Palmer has a platform to succeed at Chelsea
Palmer clearly has a friend at Stamford Bridge already in Sterling, and the £42.5m man is also known to be close with Noni Madueke.
In that respect, he shouldn’t find it difficult to settle in – in terms of socialising – and in regards to the footballing side of things, Mauricio Pochettino has often proved his worth when developing young talent.
The Argentine was responsible for gems such as Luke Shaw and Adam Lallana developing into top players at Southampton, while he also worked wonders with Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Kyle Walker at Tottenham.
Therefore, Palmer has a foundation to really kick on at Chelsea – hopefully, he can fulfil his incredible potential.
