Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher has admitted he is a big fan of Brighton & Hove Albion’s Evan Ferguson following news earlier in the summer that the young Irishman had previously turned down an Anfield switch.
Speaking on talkSPORT live at 2.45pm this afternoon, Carragher mentioned the 18-year-old who has been in impressive form for the Seagulls so far this season.
“He looks the part, doesn’t he? I like the look of him,” said the Sky Sports presenter.
Ferguson has scored four goals in four Premier League appearances this season, including a hat-trick against Champions League elect Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon.
In total, the youngster has made 33 appearances for Brighton, scoring 14 times and registering four assists. He seemingly has the world at his feet.
Aside from his club duty, Ferguson has made six appearances for the Republic of Ireland national team and scored twice.
In a chat with The Athletic earlier this summer, Ferguson spoke of Liverpool’s interest and explained his reasoning behind snubbing the Reds
“I went to Liverpool a few times,” said the teenager.
“It is a good club, but you see so many boys at Liverpool just fading away and there’s no chance to get in the first team
“I was thinking, ‘Do I just want to play two years of under-18s and then go to the 23s and go from there to where?’
“Brighton is a good club. The people working around are always there to help.”
Ferguson seems destined for the top, and will have the chance to prove himself on the European stage this season with Brighton joining Liverpool and West Ham United as the English trio partaking in the Europa League.
There is nothing to suggest that Jurgen Klopp’s men will not return to a possible deal for the striker in the future, though his price tag has now soared higher than ever before with Telegraph journalist Luke Edwards claiming he may well soon be a £100million player.
The Reds may regret missing out on this one in the coming years.
