A group of European clubs, including Liverpool, have held talks over pushing FIFA to establish regulation that ensures they receive transfer fees from deals that saw players move to Saudi Arabian clubs.

The Reds have been heavily targeted by clubs from the Gulf state this summer, as Fabinho made the move to Al Ittihad for £40m, Jordan Henderson went to Al Ettifaq for £12m and Roberto Firmino switched to Al Ahli upon the expiry of his contract.

With so many players sold to the SPL this window, there will be a considerable amount of money flowing towards European leagues. However the league is outside of UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations, which means they would not be penalised as European clubs would for failures to meet payment obligations.

Therefore clubs such as Liverpool hope football’s global governing body can step in to put the necessary framework in place that would provide greater security to the selling party.

Ibrahima Konate has missed Liverpool’s last two matches against Newcastle United and Aston Villa as he recovers from an injury.

The issue also forced him to withdraw from France’s squad for the ongoing international break as Jurgen Klopp banks on his return following Virgil van Dijk’s suspension being extended for an extra game.

But back in his home country during the pause of domestic football, the defender has posted an update on Instagram.

Working on his fitness, Konate was going for a run to offer encouragement of his hopeful return.
