According to a report by Daily Telegraph, Liverpool and Real Madrid remain interested in Bruno Guimaraes. The 25-year-old has been in sensational form over the past 18 months, and both European giants are ready to prise him away from Newcastle United. But the Magpies are close to tying him to a new long-term contract.

Guimaraes made a name for himself while playing for Lyon. On the back of two impressive years at the French club, the Magpies went all out and signed the South American sensation. He was one of the initial investments made by the new ownership of Newcastle United.

While there have been a lot of signings post the takeover by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, the 25-year-old is the best piece of business they have done. The Brazil international arrived at the club in January 2022 for an initial fee of £38 million, a figure that could go up to £43 million with add-ons.

Since arriving at the Tyneside club, Guimaraes has gone from strength to strength. He is currently amongst the best players in the team. And, his impressive performances have not gone unnoticed as there are quite a few clubs ready to sign him.

Liverpool even previously enquired about his availability but their approach was turned down by the Magpies. The Merseyside club still remain interested in the defensive midfielder and could return in the near future.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid have been keeping a close eye on the Brazil international. Los Blancos are always on the lookout for world-class talents, and the 25-year-old surely fits the bill. His exceptional performances in the English top flight have attracted their attention and they are willing to push for his services.

Newcastle United are well aware of the amount of interest in their star midfielder’s services. As a result, they are looking to extend his contract at the club and are willing to make him the highest earner at the club alongside captain Kieran Trippier on wages of around £120,000-a-week.

According to the report, the 25-year-old is close to penning down a new deal. And, there could be a release clause in excess of £100 million to deter would-be buyers. The new contract will be a major relief for the Magpies as their assets will be secured.
