Real Madrid are not worried about the right-back position and are satisfied with the options at their disposal currently, reports Jose Felix Diaz of MARCA (h/t Madrid Zone).
This update comes amidst the Spanish capital giants being linked with a move for Chelsea captain Reece James for the summer of 2024.
As things stand, Real Madrid have Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez as their options in the right-back position.
There had been concerns about Carvajal in the recent past due to his performances being up and down and his fitness issues.
However, the veteran Spaniard has started the 2023/24 campaign on a very strong note, impressing for both club and country over the past month.
As for Vazquez, he has served as an able deputy in the right-back position in recent seasons despite being not a natural defender. The Spaniard’s contract, however, expires next year.
Going down into the academy, Los Blancos have some exciting options in the right-back position.
Vinicius Tobias is back at Castilla on loan and could make the move permanent while further down the rungs, there are talents such as Jesus Fortea and David Jimenez, among others.
And, it is said that Real Madrid are happy with options within the club’s first-team setup and the academy.
Should Real Madrid sign a new right-back?
As mentioned earlier, Lucas Vazquez’s contract expires next year. Furthermore, the Spaniard is already 32 years old.
As for Carvajal, while he has a contract that runs until 2025, he too will be turning 32 in January.
Having laid down the perfect succession plan for their midfield unit, Real Madrid should consider following a similar plan for the right-back slot.
As such, bringing in a new player for the position for next season would be prudent as it could allow the club to slowly phase Carvajal out and integrate whoever arrives.
