Ryan Gravenberch has admitted that he would love to have Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber alongside him at Liverpool.
Speaking in a Reddit AMA, the 21-year-old midfielder revealed that he would want his former Ajax teammate with him at Liverpool if he could choose anyone to join him at Anfield.
Gravenberch said: “I would maybe go for a good friend of mine, Jurrien Timber. I played my whole life with him. He’s like a brother to me. That’s why I chose him.”
Timber signed for Arsenal this summer in a £34m deal despite being strongly linked with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United in the last 12 months.
However, an ACL injury in the opening game of the season will see Timber ruled out of Premier League action well into 2024, much to Gravenberch’s dismay.
Indeed, the versatile defender could have been a dream signing for Liverpool, and for Gravenberch, Jurgen Klopp should have moved to bring Timber to Merseyside.
Timber’s age and ability to play across the entire defensive line would have made the Dutch international a dream signing for Liverpool this summer.
As well as midfielders, the Reds are desperate for a new defender who can both serve as backup in central defence as well as out in either fullback position.
And Timber would have provided just that, with a reunion with Gravenberch also a dream scenario for Liverpool had Arsenal not beaten the Reds to the punch for the defender.
