Liverpool have made a formal request to the PGMOL to receive the audio from Saturday’s controversial defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Reds, who fell to a last-minute 2-1 defeat in the capital, finished the game with the nine men after both Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota were sent off.

However, they intend to appeal the decision to dismiss the midfielder, who now faces a three-match ban after his initial yellow card for a foul on Yves Bissouma was upgraded after VAR review.

Meanwhile, Luis Diaz would incorrectly have a goal disallowed for offside, with the PGMOL belatedly defining the mistake as a ‘significant human error’ after VAR had failed to intervene.

It would later emerge that VAR Darren England and his assistant Dan Cook were not aware that the on-field decision was to disallow the goal for offside, in what has been described as a momentary lapse of concentration, and were then unable to intervene once play had restarted due to the laws of the game.

Liverpool would respond with an explosive official statement on Sunday, slamming such mistakes as unacceptable and demanding full transparency.

The club’s statement has split public opinion, with some taking issue with the strong-worded nature of Liverpool’s statement and the declaration that they would now, ‘explore the range of options available, given the clear need for escalation and resolution.’

But the Reds have now taken further action after making a formal request to PGMOL to receive the match officials’ audio from the game.

The audio would reveal what was said between referee Simon Hooper and VAR Darren England when the ‘significant human error’ to disallow Diaz’s goal was made, along with further contentious incidents including the decision to dismiss Jones.
