Chelsea still retain an interest in AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
That is according to a report from Calciomercato.
Chelsea were linked with Mike Maignan in the summer and the Italian outlet claims that the Blues still like the Frenchman.
The Evening Standard reported back in June that Chelsea had explored signing Maignan but were put off by Milan’s £80m price tag.
In the end, the club went on to sign Robert Sanchez from Brighton & Hove Albion.
Maignan is probably one of the best goalkeepers in the world, with his Milan team-mate and former Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud describing him as “unbelievable”.
We do not think there are too many managers who would turn down the chance to sign a player of that quality.
If an opportunity does present itself, then perhaps it is something Chelsea should consider. But for now, the Blues should be concentrating on signing a centre-forward and not another goalkeeper, especially after landing Sanchez.
A new centre-forward needs to be at the top of their priority list. Once they sort that out, then they should start looking at other areas of the squad.
But again, having just signed Sanchez, the Spaniard would probably have to have a really bad season for Chelsea to go back into the market for another shot-stopper so soon.
And from some of the performances that Sanchez has put in so far this term, we doubt the former Brighton man is going to have a disastrous campaign.
