Against Burnley, Chelsea hopes to improve its Premier League record.

Chelsea will be looking to extend a Premier League record when they play Burnley on Saturday afternoon.

On the back of more extreme investment during the summer transfer window, the Blues have endured a disappointing start to the new season.

Just eight points have been accumulated from their opening seven fixtures in the top flight, leaving Mauricio Pochettino’s team in 11th position in the standings.

However, Chelsea can claim to be on the up after posting successive victories over Brighton & Hove Albion and Fulham in the EFL Cup and league respectively.

Clean sheets were also kept in each of those encounters, and there is a perception that the West Londoners are now settling into life under their Argentine boss.

From Burnley’s perspective, they head into Saturday’s fixture at Turf Moor having recorded their first league win since promotion back to the Premier League, a 2-1 triumph being posted at Luton Town on Tuesday night.

Nevertheless, the 2022-23 Championship winners will be attempting to end a lengthy streak against Chelsea, one that remains as a Premier League record.

Chelsea have made a total of eight visits to Turf Moor, prevailing in each of those matches aside from a 1-1 draw that occurred in February 2017.

In Premier League history, no team has played more matches at an away ground without suffering defeat, and Chelsea will be looking to extend that run in the North West.

Furthermore, Burnley have lost five Premier League fixtures at home to Chelsea in succession, the joint-most against a single opponent in their top-flight history.

Burnley have also never recorded a clean sheet in 16 Premier League matches against Chelsea at a time when Vincent Kompany’s side have not kept a shutout in the league during 2023-24.

Meanwhile, Kompany is looking to avoid become the first manager in Premier League history to lose his first five home matches.

His club have already lost four successive home league fixtures at the start of a season for the first time ever.
