Liverpool travel to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday as they look to return to winning ways in the Premier League.
The Reds suffered two defeats to the Seagulls, last season. Their chastening defeat on the coast in January was followed up by the halting of their FA Cup defence after Kaoru Mitoma’s late effort.
Alexis Mac Allister change needed as Wataru Endo wait continues for Liverpool
When this fixture last took place in January, it was a personal celebration for Alexis Mac Allister, feted before kick-off as a World Cup winner before helping Brighton humiliate the visiting Liverpool.
But it appeared his first return to the South Coast since moving to Anfield in the summer was in danger of proving something of a nightmare for the Argentine.
Brighton, more than any club, know Mac Allister’s preferred position isn’t as a holding midfielder and, unsurprisingly, played on that accordingly.
It paid off. Their former player had already been forced to bring down Kaoru Mitoma the first time Trent Alexander-Arnold pressed forward when, after 20 minutes, he was far too casual accepting a pass from Virgil van Dijk in midfield and lost possession from which Simon Adingra went on to put Brighton ahead in almost comical fashion.
