Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer has now claimed he doesn’t think he was performing well enough in the first half at the weekend against Burnley.
He told the official club website that he improved in the second half, which coincided with a turnaround victory at Turf Moor.
The Blues made it back-to-back wins in the league for the first time in a while as they eventually came through with a 4-1 win.
Palmer scored his first goal for the club from the spot, suggesting to Chelsea fans that they may have a recognised penalty taker in their squad again at last.
The former Manchester City man also picked up an assist late in the day for Nicolas Jackson, as the Blues cruised to victory in the second half.
The England U21 international was making his third start for the club in a row, and this has coincided with a 100% win rate in that time for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Despite his obvious positive impact on his new club, Palmer himself has stated that he was not performing to his usual standards in the first half against the newly promoted side.
He said: “In the first half, I don’t think I was really playing up to the standard. In the second half, I went back out there and things seemed to click for us more.”
Palmer was joined in the notably impressive performances by Raheem Sterling, who was involved in all four goals for the Blues at the weekend.
It would be difficult for the manager to drop either attacking player when the Premier League returns in two weeks’ time, with the difficult prospect of Arsenal visiting Stamford Bridge.
