In 2024, Ange Postecoglou and Daniel Levy run the possibility of losing five Tottenham players to free transfers.

Five of Ange Postecoglou's current Tottenham squad will be able to depart N17 as free agents come next summer

Despite making such a promising start to life under Ange Postecoglou, there is still so much more for Tottenham to do in the upcoming transfer windows. Having endured a couple of very frustrating seasons in north London, Spurs need to ensure that they get back to challenging for a top-four spot on a regular basis and they don’t continue to yo-yo between the different European competitions on offer.

Speaking last month, the Tottenham boss revealed that he needs another couple of transfer windows to turn Spurs into the club he wants it to be. Only selling five players on permanent deals in the summer, the next couple of transfer windows could potentially see Tottenham refresh their squad even further.

The club do need to keep an eye on player contracts as they plot for the future, with decisions needing to be made over five players who will be able to depart on free transfers next summer, which is something chairman Daniel Levy will want to avoid. Here we take a look at the five players who could potentially depart Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for absolutely nothing in 2024.

Perisic may have already played his final game for Tottenham after he sustained an ACL injury in his right knee in non-contact training last month. It is an injury that will likely see him sidelined for the remainder of the season.

His absence is a major blow to Postecoglou and Spurs as he more than proved his worth to the team in the opening few games of the season. Perhaps not playing as many minutes as he would have liked having had to get used to a role off the bench, the Croat contributed with two assists and also played a key role in Lisandro Martinez’s own goal in their 2-0 win over Manchester United in August.

Set to turn 35 at the beginning of February, the chances of a contract extension for the player look incredibly slim as Postecoglou and Spurs plan for the future. If he is indeed to miss the remainder of the season through injury, it is a cruel way for him to bow out at Tottenham after contributing so much at the beginning of this term.

Lloris still remains a Tottenham player despite stating his intent at the beginning of the summer to move on for another challenge. A move never came to fruition prior to the summer deadline and in the end Spurs registered him as part of their 25-man Premier League party amid previous question marks about his place in the squad

Continuing to train with Spurs but not making a matchday squad so far this season, Lloris could potentially bid farewell to the football club in January if he receives the right offer. If not, it will be in the summer when his long association with Tottenham comes to an end.

Another long-serving player looking likely to head elsewhere at the end of the season is Dier. Previously a regular starter for the Lilywhites, the England international has yet to make an appearance for the team so far this campaign.

With no cup football on the horizon until Spurs enter the third round of the FA Cup in January, opportunities in the first team are going to be extremely hard to come by for the player due to Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven’s form. An exit at the end of his contract would allow Dier to have his pick of the clubs next summer and he would also likely get a big signing-on fee as he will be joining his next club a free agent.

Fraser Forster

Tottenham are well stocked for goalkeepers at present but three of those currently on the books will be at the end of their contract come next summer. Forster is one of those, having signed a two-year contract following his move to the capital in June 2022.

It would make sense for Spurs to extend his current terms, especially as he is a very experienced goalkeeper and a good deputy for Guglielmo Vicario.

Brandon Austin

Austin is the third and final goalkeeper out of contract at Tottenham next summer. Currently third-choice behind Vicario and Forster, the academy graduate’s chances of first-team football are slim to say the least.

While it would perhaps benefit Tottenham to keep Austin around so that they have sufficient cover between the sticks, there is going to come a point where the 24-year-old will want to depart for the sake of his own career. Austin has very little first-team experience to his name having only spent time out on loan with Viborg and Orlando and the summer of 2024 could be the perfect opportunity to change that.
