Sheikh Jassim is backing away from Manchester United but won’t be turning his attention to Italian giants Inter Milan.
Manchester United fans have been desperately awaiting news of a potential takeover for months now.
The ‘Glazer Out’ movement has been strong and many supporters have made their feelings clear; they think it’s time for the Glazers to go.
United were effectively put up for sale in November 2022 but, almost a year on, the leading contender has backed away…
Qatari businessman Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani had emerged as a top suitor to take over United.
£5billion for United and was making the only bid for 100% of the club.
The Glazers refused to sell at that price though and it’s now believed that Sheikh Jassim has completely pulled out of the race.
The Daily Mail add that Sheikh Jassim firmly believed that he could be a ‘dream owner’ for United and is saddened by the breakdown of his bid.
Sheikh Jassim has effectively been priced out of a deal, which will leave many United supporters even more frustrated with the Glazer family.
Sheikh Jassim pulling out of the United takeover race comes just days after Tuttomercatoweb reported that he was turning his attention to Inter Milan.
The Serie A side would certainly be cheaper than United but also wouldn’t have anywhere near the same earning potential.
Well, the rumours have already been shot down with reporter Ben Jacobs stating that rumours of Sheikh Jassim wanting Inter are ‘wide of the mark’.
Jacobs notes that Sheikh Jassim has ‘no active plans’ to target another football club after missing out on United.
It may well have been United or nothing for Sheikh Jassim, with his Old Trafford dream now seemingly coming to an end.
The Glazers now look set to sell 25% of United to Sir Jim Ratcliffe, which would only complicate matters if Jassim returned with a new move down the line.
