Ayr United head scout Ray Pattison has tipped FC Barcelona and Real Madrid to be scouting Liverpool talent Ben Doak.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, the talent spotter and former coach of Doak’s lauded the winger’s display for Scotland’s U-21s in recent weeks, with a senior call-up in the pipeline.
The 17-year-old has firmly broken into Liverpool’s first-team this season having featured heavily in the UEFA Europa League and League Cup under Jurgen Klopp.
And Pattison now thinks that European giants such as Barcelona and Madrid could now be keeping tabs on Doak, such is the Liverpool winger’s potential.
The scout said: “The way he played for Scotland’s U-21s against Spain last month, the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid would have noticed him – hopefully not!
“I was surprised Ben didn’t get a call-up to play for the main Scotland team to face Spain last Thursday as he’d have scared the Spanish.”
Doak is a once-in-a-generation talent who could go on to define both Liverpool and Scotland for many years to come.
And as a result, the Reds have to do all they can to develop Doak into the world-class player many expect the winger to become as well as keep him under lock and key.
It wouldn’t be a shock if big European clubs are already keeping tabs on Doak, and Liverpool need to ensure that the forward is never tempted to leave for greener pastures.
