A Manchester United summer signing captained his country to victory last night, as they defeated San Marino 3-0.
That man was Jonny Evans, who at the age of 35, is still doing the business for his international side. Northern Ireland picked apart San Marino in a European qualifier with Evans starring from the off.
Goals from Paul Smyth, Josh Magennis and Connor McMenamin were enough to give them the victory.
But we’re only interested in the Manchester United man – so how did he fare last night as his side was victorious?
Jonny Evans for Northern Ireland
Evans captained his country Northern Ireland last night, leading them to a 3-0 victory over San Marino.
The veteran centre-half managed 63 minutes for the Green and White Army, in what was a particularly forgetful appearance from him.
San Marino, being one of the lowest-ranked countries in the world, offered little attacking threat all game – which meant Evans had a quiet night.
Nevertheless, he did clock up some decent statistics, as sourced from Sofa Score.
Nothing to necessarily write home about, but a solid performance from the Manchester United summer signing.
A former red also featured…
Alongside Evans, there was also a familiar face for Manchester United fans playing for Northern Ireland, as Paddy McNair featured in the midfield.
McNair currently plays at Middlesbrough in the Championship and has become a solid player in the second tier of English football.
He left Old Trafford in 2016, having made only 24 senior appearances for the club. This was a departure that most fans will safely say was for the best. He never was going to make it.
The win for Evans and McNair puts them on six points in their group but still gives them almost no chance of qualifying for EURO 2024.
