Dominik Szoboszlai makes admission after Hungary win

Even with the international break, there is plenty of Liverpool news to digest on Sunday with the club reportedly eyeing up a potential record deal to replace Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai making an admission about his international teammates.

The transfer window is still a long way away but that has not stopped speculation regarding potential incomings and outgoings. One of the biggest talking points in the next 12 months is likely going to be centered around the future of Mohamed Salah.

Saudi Arabian clubs were keen on his signature in the summer but Liverpool resisted the urge to sell the Egyptian. However, as he edges closer to the end of his contract in 2025, and gets older in age, Liverpool could change their minds within 12 months, especially with Saudi Arabian clubs wielding such financial power.

According to the Daily Mirror, Liverpool is already preparing a replacement for Salah in Leroy Sané, with the site claiming that Liverpool is prepared to sign him for a record fee.

It’s an interesting proposition. Sané is in very good form and he could be an ideal candidate for Liverpool given his explosive speed and wealth of experience. However, it will not be easy to convince Bayern Munich to sell, and keeping Salah would still be preferable.

Dominik Szoboszlai makes international admission

Dominik Szoboszlai was back in international action for Hungary once again on Saturday night and the national team captain had plenty to smile about. His side beat Serbia 2-1, which has made Hungary very much the favorites to qualify first from their group to the European Championships, and Szoboszlai was in a celebratory mood after the game.

The Liverpool number eight had plenty of praise to give out to his teammates but also spoke about the high emotions during the game, with a bit of a scuffle breaking out between the two sets of players at the end of the match.

“The aim is to qualify for the European Championships so it shouldn’t be a surprise if emotions run high,” Szoboszlai told reporters, including from Liverpool.com, post-match. “I tried to stay calm during the whole game because someone had to. But there will probably be times when I will lose my head and someone else will have to calm me down.

“It happens sometimes, we lose our heads, but we support each other on the pitch. This is why we are a team. That’s why I love being here with this team. Every moment is a joy. If I could, I would come back to the national team every month.”

That’s a big declaration. But Szoboszlai’s words merely highlight the importance of international football to players. Just like Sadio Mané who described winning the AFCON as his greatest achievement, to many players, success with their country is the pinnacle of their career.
