Robertson injury may need surgery

Liverpool will soon discover how long they can expect to be without Andy Robertson as Kostas Tsimikas prepares for stint at left-back

Liverpool are waiting for the results of scans on Andy Robertson’s dislocated shoulder amid fears the left-back may require an operation.

Robertson suffered the damage shortly before half-time in Scotland’s 2-0 Euro 2024 qualifying defeat in Spain last Thursday when he challenged with home goalkeeper Unai Simon.

The left-back was immediately substituted and subsequently returned to Merseyside for the extent of the damage to be ascertained.

Now the Reds are poised to discover whether the 29-year-old will require an operation to repair the damage, which would rule him out for a significantly lengthy period as Jurgen Klopp’s side continue to challenge on three fronts.

Greece international Kostas Tsimikas is on standby to replace Robertson having been rotated into the starting line-up this season for the Europa League wins over LASK and Union Saint-Gilloise and the League Cup triumph over Leicester City.

Saturday’s lunchtime derby at home to Everton is the start of another busy period of seven games in 23 days for the Reds, who also entertain Nottingham Forest and Brentford while travelling to Luton Town in the Premier League, take on Toulouse home and away in the Europa League, and are at Bournemouth in the League Cup fourth round.

There is a concern Liverpool could be without another left-back when 19-year-old Luke Chambers, who made his senior debut as a late substitute against Leicester last month, withdrew from the England under-20 squad last week after turning his ankle and returned to the Reds.
