Liverpool were boosted by the return of a couple of faces in their pre-Everton session yesterday.
Having missed the previous two games, the big news was that Cody Gakpo is back fit and seemingly available.
But as seen in LFCTV’s ‘Inside Training’ series, the Reds were also blessed with the presence of back-up goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.
Kelleher missed out on an Ireland call-up for the recent internationals, having reportedly picked up a knee injury.
Like Gakpo, The 24-year-old missed the previous two games, surrendering the chance of a start against Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa League.
Footage from yesterday showed that Kelleher is back and working with the group, though.
As well as being spotted working in the gym with his teammates, the £20m-rated Irishman [The Athletic] was also visibly out on the grass with Alisson Becker and the rest of the goalkeepers. Great news.
Along with Gakpo, it had been expected that Kelleher would miss tomorrow’s game against Everton.
But with both players looking like being ready, Jurgen Klopp will be without just four players on Saturday.
The severity of Andy Robertson’s dislocated shoulder is still yet to be publicly revealed. We’ll perhaps get that news from Klopp during his press conference today. Regardless, the Scot is certain to miss the match tomorrow.
Curtis Jones is another without hope of playing. The Scouser will serve the second of his three-game suspension.
Thiago Alcantara is also yet to make his own long-awaited return, while Stefan Bajcetic remains a doubt, too.
For Kelleher, he also won’t play against the Toffees. Not unless there’s an emergency with Alisson, anyway. The Reds No.1 did travel to South America for international duty, but he didn’t play a single minute for Brazil. He shouldn’t need to sit out.
Beyond that though, there’s a Europa League clash with Toulouse set to come on Thursday. For Alisson, Kelleher and Liverpool’s sake generally, it’ll be good to have Caoimhin back to take his place for that one.
