Dominik Szoboszlai revelled in his first experience of the Merseyside derby, especially after coming away with three points.
The summer arrival starred in Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Everton at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday lunchtime.
The win was secured thanks to Mohamed Salah’s second-half double as the Egyptian opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 75th minute and then netted a clincher deep into added time.
Really good. I didn’t expect that big atmosphere. It’s always nice and always good but today was something special. Some guys told me already it was going to be a good one. We just do always the same thing but even today in everybody’s head was like, ‘Today’s a derby.’
On facing 10 men after Ashley Young’s sending-off in the first half…
It’s always more difficult. When we played with 10 men, we were sometimes even better. I know how it feels to play with 10 men but still we stayed calm. The chances are going to come and we have to score.
You cannot always have a good day but at the end if you score two, this is his job, this is our job. He lost some balls but we were behind him, we protected him, we win the balls back, we give it to him again. Of course sometimes it’s hard. But if you score two goals then everybody is happy in the end.
This is our job. The national team guys came back Thursday, we trained Friday, today’s already a game, 12.30. We are not used to it but it’s a derby. We were focused.
Probably it’s the same for us. It’s a really nice feeling to win the derby, to be on the top of the league but other teams are playing as well. It’s too early to speak about it but we’re going to do everything to be on the top again.
