Liverpool are reportedly strong admirers of Boca Juniors youngster Ezequiel Fernandez, who is also wanted by the likes of AC Milan and Benfica.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Reds are ‘obsessed’ about signing the 21-year-old, who is expected to move to Europe next year after exploding onto the scene in Argentina.
Developed at FC Barcelona’s famed La Masia, Fernandez is regarded by many as one of South America’s most exciting midfield prospects, with Liverpool now keeping tabs on the youngster.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are expected to spend on a midfielder in January, and South America now looks likely to be Liverpool’s market of choice, with Fluminense’s Andre Trindade also a target.
Indeed, Fernandez would be a cheaper option to the Brazilian prospect, and this latest update seems to suggest that Liverpool are ready to spend for the Boca talent.
However, interest from the likes of Milan and Benfica could be a problem, especially with the two clubs proving to be excellent landing spots for top South American prospects.
Few clubs in South America has good a development record as Boca, and Fernandez could be the latest name to leave the Argentine capital for a shot at the European stage.
And for Liverpool, a battle could be on their hands if they’re to land Fernandez, with some of football’s biggest clubs already lining up to sign the midfielder.
January will be an interesting time for Fernandez, and for Liverpool, they will need to do all they can to sign the Argentine ahead of Milan and Benfica.
