Liverpool linked with midfielder Alexis Mac Allister already ‘recommended’

Alexis Mac Allister was one of four midfield arrivals at Anfield over the summer, but the Argentine has already given his seal of approval to another potential target.

Liverpool moved quickly to secure the signing of Mac Allister from Brighton at the beginning of the window in a deal worth £35 million.

The World Cup winner has previously talked up his fellow countryman Ezequiel Fernandez, who has been linked with the Reds in recent days.

The Boca Juniors midfielder is also said to have attracted the attention of AC Milan and Benfica, with Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport listing the Reds among the interested parties.

Mac Allister has previously endorsed the 21-year-old’s talents, describing him as a player who “understands the game a lot” and recommending him to his then-club Brighton.

“If you ask me a little more about my style, there is a player that I really like and that is Equi Fernandez,” Mac Allister told TyC Sports back in January.

“He is a player who has all the conditions to reach Europe one day and I hope that can happen to him. He is a player that I like a lot, he understands the game a lot.

“He is always prepared to receive the ball, he plays with both legs, he can play as a five, as an inside player…he is a player who has certain very good conditions and, if Brighton asked me, I would say his name.”

Mac Allister has started all nine of the Reds’ Premier League games so far this season, featuring predominantly as a holding midfielder with Jurgen Klopp displaying faith in his new signing from the outset.

Despite the comprehensive nature of the overhaul in the middle of the park, there have been plenty of calls for Liverpool to add a specialist No. 6 to their ranks to allow Mac Allister to operate further up the pitch.

Fernandez is a player who would fit that criteria having spent the majority of his club career as a defensive midfielder.

Liverpool will always look to strengthen across the pitch and there is already one admirer at the club should they wish to make a move.

The club’s scouts could get a close look at Fernandez in action next month, with his side Boca Juniors facing another midfield target Andre’s Fluminense in the Copa Libertadores final on November 4.
