Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has been told to have a word with teammate Luis Diaz after his performance against Everton.

BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks named the Egyptian star in his team of the week after his brace in the Merseyside Derby.

It was far from Mohamed Salah’s best performance in a Liverpool shirt on Saturday.

Salah was largely anonymous before Michael Keane gave a penalty away for handball and he converted the spot kick.

A fantastic run by Darwin Nunez in the final moments set up Salah for his second goal in the dying moments and once again gave the red side of the city bragging rights.

However, one of the key moments in the game was the sending off of Ashley Young.

The experienced defender was booked twice in the first half with the second foul sending the £37m winger flying.

Crooks has now demanded that Salah speak to Luis Diaz about his conduct as he believed the Liverpool star overreacted.

It’s a difficult line to walk between being dramatic and making sure the referee gives the decision you want.

Diaz was definitely fouled but only the referee knows if his reaction was the reason he decided to show a second yellow card.

Reviewing the game as part of his team of the week column, Crooks said: “Referee Craig Pawson’s inability to show some discretion in the Merseyside derby exposed him once he failed to exercise any consistency.

“Neither was it helped by Luiz Diaz who rolled over at least five times for dramatic effect after Young had fouled him.

“Meanwhile, Mo Salah is back to his brilliant, unselfish and supportive best and has erased the sort of antics now affecting Luiz Diaz. It’s time Salah had a word with Diaz.”

Diaz has become one of Jurgen Klopp’s most trusted players and Peter Crouch even suggested at the weekend he could be worth £100m.

It’s unknown how much longer Salah will be at Liverpool considering the interest from Saudi Arabia in the summer that is likely to return in the future and Diaz could be the man tasked with replacing his goals and assists.

An unfortunate injury last season halted his adaptation to the Premier League but he’s looking better and better with every appearance.

It will be interesting to see just how many goals and assists he can record this season if he stays injury-free throughout the campaign.
