Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Cody Gakpo is back in full training and is now in contention to feature for Liverpool against Toulouse.
Speaking to the press, the Anfield boss revealed that the Dutch international is fully fit having missed the last few games out through an injury picked up in Liverpool’s 2-1 loss to Tottenham.
Klopp said when asked about Gakpo’s fitness: “Cody’s been in full training since Sunday, which means he’ll be available for the squad. That’s good as well.”
Lauded as ‘special’ by Liverpool’s official website, Gakpo has been a notable absentee from Liverpool’s squad in recent Premier League and cup matches.
The Dutch forward’s versatility has made the former PSV Eindhoven star one of Liverpool’s most important attackers as well as a fan favourite.
Yet after Klopp’s comments, Gakpo now looks set to return to the Liverpool squad for tomorrow’s big UEFA Europa League clash against Toulouse.
Liverpool’s attacking options are as good as they come in world football, and Gakpo’s return is a timely reminder of just good the Reds currently have it.
The Netherlands international is one of the most important members of Liverpool’s attacking ranks, and Gakpo now being free from injury means Klopp can once again unleash the 24-year-old.
With a home tie in Europe this week, Gakpo’s return has come at the best time for the Reds, with the winger primed to get the nod in the starting XI.
